My friend Olin Bare of Rockbridge County, Virginia, was the subject of a profile I wrote this fall for Virginia Wildlife magazine. Olin's a traditional archer, using recurves and longbows to bring down bear, deer and turkey on his farm near House Mountain. He's also an active volunteer with youth and church groups, freely dispersing the ancient knowledge of traditional bowhunting to a new generation. A couple of other time-honored tools at his disposal are the fiddle and banjo, with which he makes beautiful old-time (not bluegrass!) music with his band in Lexington.
